Recap: Day 13 is golden for Canadian women in Sochi
Women’s hockey strikes gold
With just three minutes left in the third period, down 2-0, Canada’s women’s hockey team refused to give up. In a comeback made for the movies, two quick goals pushed the game to dramatic overtime. And the hero from Vancouver 2010, Canadian forward Marie-Philip Poulin, who scored the only two goals against the U.S. four years ago, scored the game winning goal. The entire country went wild – and our Prime Minister won a case of beer.
Canada’s women’s hockey has now won gold in the last four Winter Olympics.

No medal in men’s ski cross
Canadian Brady Leman placed fourth after crashing in the final. Dave Duncan and Chris Del Bosco, who placed fourth in Vancouver, didn’t advance past the 1/8 finals, despite seeding 2nd and 6th.
No medal in women’s ski halfpipe
Rosalind Groenewoud qualified 5th in ski halfpipe, but fell on her first run in the finals. She came in third on the second run, but it wasn’t enough to medal: the longtime friend of Sarah Burke, the late freestyle ski pioneer, finished 7th.
Still, her finish was a commendable feat, considering she underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees just two months ago.
