Former world champion and gold medalist Christine Nesbitt finished the 1,500m long track event in 17th place, ending her chances of collecting an individual medal at Sochi. She has one more chance at a medal in the team pursuit. The 28-year-old speed skater from London, Ont., was considered a contender for the podium after winning the 1,000m in Vancouver.
Earlier in the Olympics, she finished ninth in the 1,000m and 12th in the 500m.
Canadians Kali Christ, Brianne Tutt and Brittany Schussler also ended their races outside of medal contention. Skaters from the Netherlands dominated the race, capturing the top four spots. Winning gold was 24-year-old Jorien Ter Mors, who set an Olympic record with a finishing time of 1:53.51.
